Origin

This steep 21 hectare (52 acres) south-south-west facing site features moderately deep, stony soil of eroded clayey slate. A special feature of the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is the prevalence of surfaces that were not subjected to the process of wholesale vineyard restructuring and resurfacing known as Flurbereinigung and that harbor ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines. Wines from the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr are incredibly elegant and delicate, with an abundant interplay of flavors and filigree acid structure.

Vinification

At the end of October, the grapes were harvested and stringently sorted by hand. This resulted in 100% healthy berries, that were gently crushed and macerated for several hours on their aroma- and mineral-rich skins. The must fermented slowly and spontaneously at low temperatures so that the wine’s multi-faceted fruity aromas could develop perfectly. Subsequently, the wine was carefully matured on its lees for an extended period in cask.
