Vineyard
The approximately 62-hectare steep slope with south to south-east exposure features a unique red weathered slate soil with a high proportion of rock, which is rare along the Mosel. Wines from the Ürziger Würzgarten are, due to this distinctive soil, finely spicy and fruity, impressively full-bodied, with a fine interplay of acidity and a clear structure.
Winemaking
The grapes were harvested at the end of October. 100% healthy fruit was gently crushed and macerated for several hours on the aromatic and mineral-rich grape skins. The must was then slowly and cool-fermented with indigenous yeasts, allowing the wine’s multifaceted, fruity aromas to fully develop. Gentle maturation in large wooden casks with extended lees ageing followed after fermentation.
Food Pairing
Our expressive and invigorating Spätlesen are excellent matches for white meat dishes such as chicken breast saltimbocca in tomato and basil sauce with zucchini vegetables, as well as fine fish dishes like cod in creamed spinach or sea bream with fennel. They also pair beautifully with paella and ratatouille. Best decanted and enjoyed from a large glass.
